Before the Semester Starts
Check the Housing portal in MyRED to see your assigned move-in date and time for your residence hall. Refer to University Housing information about move-in processes.
Review the list of Big Red Welcome events in the Nebraska App and create your custom event schedule.
Log in to Canvas and review available materials for your courses. Many professors will post the course syllabus before the semester begins.
Student loan borrowers must complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and loan entrance counseling. Complete by August 1 to avoid potential delays in funding.
Copy and pack your health insurance policy cards.
Add the University Police Department phone number into your contacts (402-472-2222) and sign up for UNL Alert.
Purchase a parking pass and/or register your bike.
Familiarize yourself with the Student Code of Conduct.
Order your textbooks online through the Campus Store or through your MyRED account (MyRED > Enrollment tab > "Textbook Online Ordering").
Talk with parents and family about how you will update them on your academic progress, budgets and whether you plan to give them access to your educational information. Your student information is protected by FERPA (Family Educational Rights Privacy Act).
Bookmark the Center for Academic Success and Transition (CAST) for academic coaching, workshops and study stop locations.
Review your class schedule in MyRED and locate buildings. New Student Enrollment hosts class schedule tours during Big Red Welcome.
Transfer your prescriptions to the Health Center by calling and bringing your medicine containers with the labels attached.
Connect your computers and devices to the eduroam Wi-Fi.
Contact your academic advisor if a course change is necessary.
Review the Academic Calendar so you’re aware of key dates and deadlines throughout the semester.
Confirm in MyRED that your IB, AP, transfer credits and final high school transcripts are received by the Office of Admissions no later than the first day of the semester.
