ResponsibilitiesBecome knowledgeable in the following topics in order to effectively communicate information to incoming students:
- Develop an expertise in the academic programs of your college.
- Understand the requirements of other colleges well enough to work with students enrolling in all colleges.
- Develop a complete information base about UNL services and programs.
- Facilitate discussions of student and/or parent tour groups.
- Attend all orientation leader training and development sessions.
Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of:
- Summer enrollment.
- Transfer orientation.
- Big Red Welcome.
- Husker Dialogues.
- Other activities during the year.
- Perform tasks necessary to ensure a well-run office/service area. Giving special attention to class registration of new students during enrollment programs
- Make sure to follow all instructions and complete all necessary areas of application.
- Application deadline is November 10.
Because of the large number of students who apply for an orientation leader position, it is not possible to interview all applicants.
To determine a group of finalists, applicants will be screened by their college or division based upon the answers to the questions in the application and academic achievement.

- Must have attended UNL full time for a least 1 year. Exception: Transfer Students are eligible to apply in their first semester.
- Be in good disciplinary standing.
- Be enrolled as a full-time student at the time of application.
- Last semester GPA and cumulative GPA is 2.0 or above.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to give tours of the UNL campus to large groups.
- Ability to assist students in building a class schedule.
- Willingness to learn about campus facts and University services are necessary.
- Must be able to work as part of a team to accomplish group goals.
- Have an appreciation for diversity and sensitivity toward a variety of ideas and values.

Orientation leaders will be paid an hourly wage while working during:
- New Student Enrollment
- Big Red Welcome
- Mid Semester Check programs
- Orientation leaders are projected to earn between $3,150 and $3,500 during the summer 2017.
- Free room and board are provided at University Housing from May 8th to July 8th for a projected value of $1,800.
- It is necessary to live on campus during the summer program.
- Free housing is also available during the second five-week session*.
- The total compensation package is valued between $4,950 and $5,300.
*It is possible to take classes during the second five-week summer session.
